EUPEX Software Stack Takes the Stage at Euro-Par 2026

The EUPEX project was pleased to bring its work on European HPC software technologies to Euro-Par 2026 in Pisa, Italy, with a dedicated mini-symposium on the EUPEX Software Stack.

Held on 24 August, the four-hour session, “EUPEX Software Stack: A Sovereign Software Stack for European Advanced Computing”, brought together researchers, developers, system experts and HPC stakeholders to explore the software challenges associated with the next generation of modular and heterogeneous computing systems.

The mini-symposium highlighted the breadth of the EUPEX software activities, covering four key areas: system management, execution environments, efficiency tools, and high-performance I/O. Through a series of technical presentations, speakers from across the EUPEX consortium presented representative technologies and discussed their role in supporting the deployment, operation and efficient use of large-scale HPC systems for HPC, AI/ML and data-intensive workloads.

The programme featured contributions from Sai Narasimhamurthy (ParTec), Quentin Aniere (CEA), Simon Pickartz (ParTec), Philippe Couvée (Bull), Giorgos Saloustros (FORTH) and Chadi Akel (Bull), offering different perspectives on the development and integration of software technologies for future European computing systems.

The event also provided an opportunity for open discussion. The closing Q&A and panel discussion generated active interaction with the audience, with questions and exchanges around the challenges of developing, integrating and sustaining a European software ecosystem for future HPC and Exascale systems.

The strong engagement throughout the session underlined the importance of software in the transition towards Exascale computing. While advances in processors and system architectures are essential, the software ecosystem is equally critical to enable applications and users to take full advantage of increasingly complex and heterogeneous systems.
