The EUPEX-SS Workshop presents the software ecosystem developed within the European EUPEX Project initiative, which aims to advance modular supercomputing platforms based on European technologies, including processors developed through the European Processor Initiative. The workshop focuses on system software challenges and research directions for next-generation High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems, particularly in the context of heterogeneous architectures, AI-driven workloads, energy efficiency, and modular system integration.

The EUPEX software suite provides an integrated environment supporting:

  • System management and orchestration for Modular Supercomputing Architectures (MSA)
  • Execution environments for heterogeneous and Arm-based platforms
  • Performance analysis and optimisation tools
  • Hierarchical storage and data management mechanisms
  • Software stacks for AI/ML and data-intensive HPC workloads
  • Hardware–software co-design methodologies

The software environment is currently being evaluated on the EUPEX Software Development Vehicle (SDV), a precursor to the Arm-based Rhea1 system, using representative scientific and industrial applications.

The workshop aims to foster discussion within the SBAC-PAD community on:

  • Scalable system software for future HPC platforms
  • Resource management for heterogeneous computing environments
  • Energy-aware HPC software design
  • Data-intensive and AI-enabled scientific computing
  • European approaches to modular supercomputing architectures

Software challenges associated with emerging Exascale systems

Workshop Objectives

The workshop aims to present the architecture and design principles of the EUPEX software ecosystem, discuss research challenges associated with modular HPC systems, and share initial experiences from the EUPEX SDV platform. It will also encourage collaboration between European and international HPC communities, while exploring future directions in scalable and energy-efficient HPC software infrastructures. Invited speakers from the EUPEX community will deliver the talks.
